Become a Fitness Instructor
The LRC will be offering several Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) courses in March.
Resistance Training
20-hour course covering topics including:
- circuit and introductory weight training programs
- fitness centre monitoring
- safety considerations and training methods
Prerequisites: Resistancce Training
Cost: $230 Includes 3-day workshop and exam fees
Course dates: March 12 (5 pm to 9 pm), March 13, (9 am to 5 pm), March 14 (9 am to 5 pm)
Practical sessions for Resistance Training
Prerequisites: Resistance Training
Cost: $110 Includes 3 two-hour sessions with an instructor at the S&D Fitness Centre
Course dates: March 17, 24 and 31 (6 pm to 8 pm)
Group exercise Fundamentals
12-hour course covering topics specific to leading group exercise classes. Topics include:
- developing movement combinations
In order to enhance training, this course can be combined with specialty designation courses (step, portable equipment, choreography, cycle etc.)
Prerequisites: Exercise Theory
Cost: $130.00
Includes 2-day workshop and exam fees.
Course Dates: March 5 (5:00pm – 9:00pm), March 6 (9:00am – 5:00pm) and March 7 (9:00am – 5:00pm)

- Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion
Prerequisites: 13 years old or Bronze Star
- Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross

- Aquatic Emergency Care (AEC) or Standard First Aid (SFA)
Prerequisites: 13 years old
- National Lifeguard Service (NLS)
Prerequisites: 16 years old, Bronze Cross and current AEC or SFA
Steps to Become an Instructor
- Red Cross Assistant Water Safety Instructor (AWSI)
Prerequisites:15 years old and Swim Kids 10 ability is recommended
- Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

LRC Training Camp Spring Challenge - Win the title of Biggest Loser!

The LRC Training Camp Challenge is a fun, challenging way to lose weight. Twice weekly, your team will be challenged to complete a variety of strength, cardio and core fitness activities.
Join use for a fun 10-week training camp that will consist of two teams focusing on:
- Camp Strength: the development of functional strength
- Camp Cardio: focusing on improving cardiovasular fitness
- Camp Core: focusing on the development of core strength and stability
You don't need to sign up as a team. Teams will be made the evening of the first class.

Masters Power Lunch
January 19 to March 18
The LRC Mix Family Aquatic Centre’s Masters Swim Club is a program that offers adults the opportunity for physical fitness, stroke improvement and regular coaching. Swimming is an excellent way for people of any age to stay in shape with many benefits, such as cardiovascular improvement and cholesterol reduction. It can have a positive effect on weight control, muscle toning, stress reduction and improving strength and endurance.
The Masters Power Lunch is a program geared for those who want to sneak away from their desk during their lunch break and get a great energy boosting workout. It is open to anyone 18 years of age or older and the only prerequisite is a desire to swim.

Cost: $76.25 for the session or $7.50 per day
